What I Love About September

summer-garden-fabulous

I’m sorry, this published yesterday before I was done editing…..

One of the most fabulous things in our garden this summer was the scarlet runner pole bean. It laced leafy arms around the trellis, followed by luscious red-orange blossoms! This type of bean isn’t known for its bean but for its beauty.

It’s Trendy

When we sold our home and downsized we gave away so much! I had all of my childhood 16 mm movies digitalized as well as the VHS home movies of my daughters as they grew. I had to part with things like my grandmother’s slide projector but I couldn’t part with her grandmother’s spinning wheel.

Apparently, the minimalist challenge is a “thing.” For thirty days toss or donate one thing each day.  What would it look like to live simply, to only keep what you need? Would you do it?

On the Nightstand

Same Kind of Different as Me,” a biography written by Ron Hall, Denver Moore and Lynn Vincent is the kind of book once you read it you won’t forget. The movie comes to theaters in October.

REST

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest…” Matthew 11:28 NIV

I held my littlest granddaughter in my arms while she rubbed her eyes and shook her head, fighting sleep. My Nana bedtime skills were a little rusty. I rocked, patted, sang, and paced until I was the one who needed a nap. Each time I leaned over the crib to lay precious Emery’s head down, her bright blue eyes popped open. It had been awhile since I had taken care of a 4-month old, what was I forgetting?

As I sat down to rock her again I thought of God and his desire to comfort us with rest. I’m a “multi-tasking” kind of gal. Many times I’ve rushed ahead with my own plan, forgetting that God has something better. Eventually I realize I can stop striving and trust Him. Things work out better when I admit I can’t do this thing and allow Him to take over.

Are the “have to” pressures of life overwhelming?

Pause. Receive. Talk to Him. Allow God to meet you where you’re at. Rest in Him.

Change

On a blog I follow regularly, I read, “Make your own mold, my friends. Be free!” In the world of writing, I’m doing just that.  You’ll see a new look on the blog over the next few days.

The international blogging challenge, Write 31 Days, starts Sunday. Join me for “Create. Art from the Heart!”  You’ll receive a newsletter each day with links to Home Decor projects and videos and step-by-step instructions to create your own hand bound book! This is a beautiful book you can use as a journal, collection of photographs from a favorite trip or family photographs, recipes, and more!

I hope you’ll join me!
